Today is May 1. The day when the Croatian military, paramilitary and police forces carried out the operation "Flash" on the territory of Western Slavonia, which was part of the then Republic of Serbian Krajina.
At the time of the attack, the area of Western Slavonia was under the protection of the United Nations.
In 36 hours, 18,000 Serbs were expelled, 283 were killed or disappeared, including 114 civilians, 11 police officers, as many as 56 women and eight children, up to 14 years of age and 75 people over the age of 60. According to Veritas, the remains of 156 people have been found so far, and 127 are still reported as missing.
For us, a day of sorrow, loss and misfortune, but also a new difficult beginning in our homeland.
